If you are shopping for cashmere knitting yarn, be sure to read the labels. Many yarn companies are now manufacturing fake skeins of cashmere. The label will say cashmere, but if you read closely, you will uncover the truth… only 1-5% of the skein is made with cashmere. The rest is produced using synthetic materials. If you are looking for pure cashmere, buy a brand that you are familiar with or read the label carefully. The lines have been getting longer at the customer service desks of many discount and craft stores. Since the stores have been stocking the new brands, they have experienced a larger than ususal number of returns. When consumers realize they have purchased a skein of yarn that is not pure cashmere, they quickly return to the store and exchnage the new product for the real thing. Price can be a good indicator. The spoof skeins are being sold for much less than authentic skeins. If the price seems too good to be true, it probably is.
